HBO has unveiled a very brief (17 seconds) teaser for the second season of Game of Thrones, its acclaimed drama based on the bestselling fantasy series by George R.R. Martin. Fans of the novels will recognize the words “The night is dark and full of terrors” as belonging to Lady Melisandre, the priestess of R’hllor who believes King Robert’s brother Stannis is a messianic figure foretold by prophecy. Using her prophetic powers, Melisandre counsels Stannis while putting those who resist the new faith to flames. She’ll be played by Dutch actress Carice van Houten when Game of Thrones returns in spring 2012.
