Yahoo! Movies has premiered the first poster for Red Dawn, the long-delayed MGM remake of the 1984 Cold War classic.

Originally set for release in 2010 but shelved because of the studio’s financial problems, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki and Isabel Lucas as a group of small-town teens who band together to fight North Korean invaders (in the original, it was the Soviet Union with its Cuban and Nicaraguan allies; in the remake it was initially China, until executives realized that might create distribution problems).

Directed by Dan Bradley, Red Dawn opens Nov. 21.

Headline of the Day: Source Comic Book Resources

Below you’ll find the sales estimates for comics and trade paperbacks sold in the direct market for July, 2012. The sales numbers below are estimates based on the information provided by Diamond Comics Distributors earlier this month. Sales estimates for June, 2012 can be found here.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind when reading this data. These numbers are just estimates for the sales through Diamond to direct market retailers. It does not include any sales outside of the Diamond channel such as newstands, book stores or overseas markets. Since the majority of habitual comic book readers are served through this sales channel, these numbers are a good indicator of the core sales trends at the retail level. While not all copies will sell to readers, each retailer is buying what they think they can sell so the trends at the retail level should be a close enough reflection of the sales trends at the reader level for the purposes of discussion. Welcome back to part two of our feature on Cosplay Babe of the Month for August 2012, Mad Mel.  She gave us some great answers in part one of her interview and we look forward to learning more about her in part two, so let’s get back to it.

Comics Ninja: What are your best and worst fanboy experiences at the conventions or events?

cosplay, costume, hottest, comic, book, babes, photos, pictures, convention

Mel:  My best fan boy experience was when my now boyfriend came up to me at my first con.  He was dressed as Spider-Man, STILL to this day the best Spidey I’ve ever seen, and asked to take a picture with me and continued to ask if I was working the con professionally.  He was shocked it was my first con.  I remember giggling a lot but he seemed to think I was bored.

I’ve had a couple of experiences that have ranked for the worst but nothing really scary.  I’ve had guys grab my boobs “on accident” while taking pictures.  I’ve had stalkers on face book send me extremely inappropriate messages.  Lots of just…creepy things.  No one has really threatened me or anything though.

Comics Ninja: What comic books are you personally reading right now? Favorite games or Anime?

Mel:  I’m catching up on Spider-man a lot right now.  Lots of Black Cat collections and I also picked up Spider-man noire.  Hack/Slash is also on my reading list.  I’m on the third collection right now.  As for games, I was playing Diablo 3 for a bit but got bored.  I’m waiting for guild wars to come out.  I’m actually still attempting to beat Alice Madness Returns because I keep getting distracted with other things.  Fairytail is the one and only anime I watch and it is magnificent.
