Merry Christmas and happy holidays, Ninja Nation.  Our gift to you is wrapped in Cosplay goodness and comes all the way from London.  Please join us in welcoming December 2012 Cosplay Babe of the Month, Stacey Rebecca.  Now let’s get right to her sizzling pictures and wonderful interview.

Stacey Rebecca cosplay

Comics Ninja:  Stacey, thank you for joining us today all the way from the U.K., and South London. Why don’t you take the opportunity to tell us little bit about yourself.

Stacey: My name’s Stacey Rebecca, I’m an alternative/cosplay model from the UK and my favorite things in the world are mathematics, Batman and my Xbox! :)

Comics Ninja: We note that you have a pretty extensive and impressive modeling background.  Why don’t you tell us a little bit about it.

Stacey: I started modeling a few years ago with some amazingly talented photographer friends, only very occasionally though.  I love cosplay modeling but my first love was alternative modeling, being the massive goth that I am.  Don’t let the blonde hair deceive you!  Most people expect me to be super confident and perfect in real life but I’m really not – modeling has given me a huge boost of self-esteem but in reality I’m just a shy nerd with hang ups just like everybody else.  I look like a total mess when I’m not modeling, too!

Comics Ninja: What came first modeling or cosplay and what first got you into cosplay?

Stacey: I’ve always been into cosplay in terms of fancy dress parties and what not, but it’s only really the last couple of years that I started making my own costumes.  I’m quite the perfectionist and would get frustrated when store bought costumes weren’t exactly true to the comic/game, so I’d make alterations and additions myself.  And it went from there really – I figured that I had loads of awesome costumes that might make some decent pictures, so I started bringing them along to photo shoots and that was it!

Comics Ninja: What was your first cosplay experience like?

Stacey: I’ve been attending conventions for a couple of years now but I only started cosplaying at them this year, and it was NUTS!  I wore my Assassin’s Creed 3 Connor Kenway costume to Eurogamer in the summer, and the attention was really overwhelming – I literally couldn’t get from A to B without being stopped for photos and surrounded by people.  I had no idea what was going on!  I only got to play two games that day… Next time, I’m having a day dressed normally so I can experience everything to the fullest!  I did get to cut the line for Assassin’s Creed 3 though, woooot!

Welcome to part two of our feature on November 2012, Cosplay Babe of the Month, Alexia Jean Grey.  We’ve loved her pictures and interview responses so far so let’s get right back to the questions and roll out some more smoking photos.

Comics Ninja:  Yeah we agree AvX ended up being a bit of a snoozer (see part one of the interview).  And now for the tough part of the interview.  Which is better Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead and why?

Alexia: Oh jeez… I could probably go one forever about this. I actually do not like the Walking Dead show.  I understand yeah the guy who wrote the comic is also doing the show and it’s supposed to be a different take on it and TV can’t do all the brutal things that the comic can and yatta yatta.  But I think the comic book is way better, I watched the first season of WD and a recent episode of it and I was just flat out confused.  To me I like the way the comic book flows better and I liked the characters/ the deaths/ the governor everything better in the comic.  Not to say the show is bad but I just prefer the book better.  So I have to give it to GOT I love both the book and the show equally.

Comics Ninja:  Good answer.  What character would you be if you could be any character in real life?

Alexia: That is also a tough question.  I would have to go with Natasha though, I do love superpowers and would be happy to have some, but I love the fact that BW has none but can defeat enemies that do. She is insanely intelligent and is a master in weaponry as well as martial arts, and to me that is just as badass as being able to fly or super strength.

Comics Ninja:  If you could have any superpowers what would they be?

Alexis: Any kind of telekinetic or magic powers.  Somewhere between Scarlett Witch and Jean Grey is cool with me.

Comics Ninja: You bring a sensual side to your cosplay.  Is that intentional or does that just come out naturally when bringing the characters to life?

Alexia: Yes and no, to me 99.9% of female characters are drawn sexy, so sometimes it does just come out (I would like to believe sexuality is a great superpower ha!) However there are certain characters that have that as part of their personality such as Poison Ivy.  Her kisses are deadly and just covered in leaves so of course you have to bring a little sex appeal when wearing that costume.

Comics Ninja: What costumes are you planning in the near future?

Alexia: Currently I am making Felicia from Darkstalkers and Rei from High School of the Dead.  As much as I love comics I have not done an anime or video costume in a long time.  I am also planning on a really big piece for Megacon next year but I am keeping that one as a surprise!

Comics Ninja:  Any advice for fellow cosplayers planning to go to the conventions dressed as their favorite characters in the future?

Let’s all give thanks to the great state of Florida for producing so many wonderful cosplayers.  Today we welcome our November 2012, Cosplay Babe of the Month, Alexia Jean Grey to the Comics Ninja website.  She has been gracious enough to share some of her favorite cosplay photos and grant us a two part interview.  With that said, let’s get the ball rolling.

Comics Ninja:  Alexia, thank you for joining us today all the way from Boca Raton, Florida.   What first got you into cosplay?

Alexia: Ever since I was little I would use any excuse to dress up.  I always sat around drawing designs for outlandish ballgowns and crazy shoes.  Of course my love for comic books and anime just tied together so perfectly.  When I moved to Florida I became friends with a group who went conventions and cosplayed so of course I jumped right in and the rest is history.

Comics Ninja: What was your first cosplay experience like at a convention or otherwise?

Alexia:  It was defiantly a great experience.  My first costume was made by Emily Galea and it was Kasumi from Dead Or Alive.  My first convention was Metrocon which was a great first convention for me to attend.  I spent most of my time being amazed at everything around me and spent a lot of my time in the gaming room playing Super Smash Brothers Melee.  I do look back and wonder how I had so much stamina with wearing my costumes though.  From the moment I would wake up to when I slept I was in costume.  Maybe my heels have just gotten higher or something but after a couple hours in costume now it feels like I was hit by a truck.

Comics Ninja: We note that you were a “traveling gymnast for 10 years.  Tell us what that entailed.

Alexia: It entailed a lot of training and no free time.  I was involved in a lot of sports when I was younger. I was good at it but never enjoyed it enough to continue much through high school.  I was always a shy kid so I think my mom thought by being a gymnast it would help me break out of my shell but I always wanted to watch anime and hang out with my geeky friends.  I am thankful for it now though, gymnastics helped me get a better understanding of posing and modeling that I use now.  Still though it takes a lot for me to want to go to the gym after 10 years of spending every waking moment in one!

Comics Ninja:  What is your favorite convention or event to attend?

Alexia:  It’s hard to say, each convention offers different outlets.  If you’re more into guests/panels then the big mega conventions like NYCC and SDCC are more those peoples style.  My favorite big convention is Dragon*con mainly because it is the superbowl of costumes and I like the layout of it being over 5 hotels instead of one convention center.  I do usually prefer the smaller shows though, the main one being Anime Festival Orlando.  This show is less about work and more about fun for me, all my friends are there and it’s pretty much one giant nerd party (thanks to the hotel pool being open 24 hours).  In all honesty though each show has a different place in my heart.

Comics Ninja: We note that you like spiders and Taylor Swift.  Spiders, O.K., but Taylor Swift?  Look we’re geeks to so we shouldn’t judge but really?

Alexia: Yes I am super serious!  I think Taylor is amazing.  Her music is pretty catchy and she is a stunning girl.  But the more I researched about her the more I started to respect her.  She was a girl who had great talent and dreams and decided to chase after it.  She did sacrifice a lot to get to where she is now and is not one those idols that was sucked into Hollywood or turned to be trashy.  She is an inspiration to me and I can relate to her in a lot of ways.  I just really admire her ambition.

Comics Ninja:  Good Answer!  Now, what do you think of all of the attention you have gotten from the fanboys (and girls) on the internet and at conventions?

Alexia: Awesome yet really odd at the same time.  When I get stressed out and overwhelmed my fans are always there to support me.  I will never forget one girl in particular who saw me at a Starbucks one day and was almost in tears that she had a chance to meet me, I was really honored that I inspired her that much even though I feel like just a regular girl just doing what she loves.  I think it’s one those things I will never get used to.  No matter what money or attention I get, it will never mean as much to me as giving people inspiration to chase after what their dreams are even if everyone is against them.  That alone will make me die happy.

cosplay, babe, sexiest, photos, pictures, comic, book

Photo Right: Alexia as Skanty.  Photo by Max Power.

Comics Ninja: What are your best and worst fanboy experiences at the conventions?

Alexia: The best experiences are when they geek out over what character I am.  When they say I am their favorite character or say “ermergawd yer like da best Ivy ever” it really warms my heart that with all the talented costumers in the world they hold me to that standard.  Also when young girls look up to me, that is always the best feeling.  There was one little girl who was so starstruck that she really thought I was the real Black Widow (or Scarlett Jo) and she wanted my autograph.  It makes me happy knowing that since movies gave female characters like Black Widow and Catwoman such a strong main character that it’s giving younger girls an eye opener into the comic book world.  Instead of looking up to girls like Kim Kardashian they want to be Supergirl and I think that’s amazing.

I can’t say that I have had to many terrible expirences besides a couple stalkers and feeling some third legs when taking pictures.  The only thing that ever sucks is when people will put there  arm around me for a picture and it will break a piece of my costume.  I don’t blame them though it’s just an accident but still sucks doing on the spot repairs.

Comics Ninja:  Just a moment we’re consulting a dictionary of popular culture to figure out that third leg reference meant.  Here it is…Oh my!  So, moving on, what comic books are you personally reading right now? Favorite games?

Alexia: I was reading AVSX and it started to go down hill for me (and had a feeling phoenix was going to return so I was bored of it). I am currently reading New 52 and Uncanny Avengers which I have been enjoying.  I am always playing fighting games.  I am still hooked on MVC and still need to go pick up the new Halo and Pokemanz.

Comics Ninja: Now, we note that you cosplay both Marvel and DC.  Favorite comic books that you are reading right

Jean: Now?  I have to say that when it comes to reading and collecting, I’m a Marvel girl! I do read and follow some DC issues like Wonder Woman, Batman, new 52 Batgirl, but most of my comics are Marvel.  I am reading “House of M” right now and it’s so great!! I love Epic stories like this (and the Infinity Gauntlet) that really push the superheroes to their limits.  It’s great to see them overcome huge obstacles in time of adversity.  Because if it was easy, the accomplishment wouldn’t be as grand.. ya know?

Comics Ninja: And now for the tough part of the interview. Best movie: Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi, and why?

Jean: Agghh! I’ll have to go with ROTJ.. and for only one reason….EWOKS! I love them.

Comics Ninja: We’re going to bite our tongues in regards to that answer and just move on.  Next, if you could have any superpowers what would they be?

Jean: I would have to go with mind reading ;) or invisibility! Think of the possibilities!

Comics Ninja: Unfortunately we are and that could gets us in all sorts of trouble.  Anywhoo, what costumes are you planning in the near future?

Jean: I always cosplay characters I relate with or am attracted to.. and right now Scarlet Witch has caught my eye!

Comics Ninja:  Good choice.  Any advice for fellow cosplayers planning to go to the conventions dressed as their favorite characters in the future?

Jean: DO IT! Don’t hold back because of fear of what people might say.. if it makes you happy do it!

Comics Ninja: Any last parting pearls of wisdom or otherwise to pass onto the readers?

Jean: Always wait 20 after you eat to go swimming.. uhm, Beer before liquor you’ve never been sicker… and always follow the golden rule: Treat people  how you want to be treated! ;)

Comics Ninja:  All good advice and noted.  Finally, any websites or links we should check out to see more of your wonderful costumes and learn more about you?

Jean: Like my page on facebook @  http://www.facebook.com/jeangomezcosplay.

Comics Ninja: Thank you!

Jean: No, thank you !!!!

And of course the fan favorite photo of each feature, Jean as…herself (with a little bit of naughty school girl thrown in)!

jean gomez, comic book babesOctober 2012, Cosplay Babe of the Month, Jean Gomez as Wonder Woman.

Happy almost Halloween, Ninja Nation.  With that in today we have a special treat for you.  Please join us in welcoming October 2012 Cosplay Babe of the Month, Jean Gomez.  Jean has been kind enough to sit down and give us a wonderful interview and share some of her favorite cosplay photos.  We’ve split her feature into two parts, so let’s get rolling with part one.

Comics Ninja:  Jean, thank you for joining us today all the way from  southern California. Briefly tell us a little bit about yourself.

Photo left, Jean as the Lady Joker.

Jean: Hi! Thank you so much for having me.  I’m from  Temecula, CA, a small town 80 miles north of San Diego.  I’m a comic book enthusiast who reads and collects comics.  I work a full time job by day, and I’m a star gazer by night.  Most of my cosplaying stuff happens at home on the weekends in my cosplay room, that’s also formally known as “the office” lol.

Comics Ninja: What first got you into cosplay?

Jean: Well, it really all started back in 2006, when my husband took me to my first Comic Con.  It was the accuracy and the quality of the costumes that attracted me to cosplay, but it wasn’t until a couple years later that I summoned up the courage to actually try it myself.

Comics Ninja: What was your first cosplay experience like at a convention or otherwise?

Jean: My first cosplay experience was Wonder Woman at San Diego Comic Con. The first couple of steps out of our hotel and onto the street were the hardest, but once I hit that convention floor it was like I was at home!

Photo right, Mary Jane Watson does some Spidey Laundry.  Peter Parker you are a very lucky man.

Comics Ninja: What is your favorite comic book convention to attend?

Jean: I have been fortunate enough to be able to attend several conventions, I have to say that Phoenix Comic Con was one of my favorite. That convention has so much heart!  You can feel everyone’s excitement to be there for the artist, vendors, panels and cosplayers.

Comics Ninja: What does your husband think of your cosplaying? Does he ever  participate himself?

Jean: Oh he loves it!  Lol.  He doesn’t cosplay so he just keeps a watchful eye and makes sure that things don’t get strange.

Comics Ninja: What do you think of all of the attention you have gotten  from the fanboys (and girls) on the internet and at conventions?

Jean: It’s a great compliment to have people ask to take pictures with me.  I love that they want to include me in their memories, and that they like my cosplay so much that they want to remember it!

Comics Ninja: What are your best and worst fanboy experiences at the conventions?

hottest, cosplay, pictures, photos, convention, comic, book

Photo left, Jean as Elektra.

Jean: I have so many great experiences with fanboys/fangirls! The most memorable ones are those who stop and ask me how I’m doing, its so sweet that they’re fully aware of how uncomfortable some of the costumes are, and they’re genuinely concerned about how bad my feet hurt! Lol.  I have been fortunate enough to not have bad encounters.  I think the “worst” one was a guy why blatantly walked up and took a picture of my booty! Luckily the husband was there to ask him very nicely to delete the pic!

Comics Ninja: Good for you and husband!

That wraps up part one of our feature, be sure to join us tomorrow for part two, until then get the latest comic book, gaming, sci-fi, movie, cosplay and animation news on our all new revamped Ninja Report, containing the best sourced and aggregated news from every corner of the internet and updated every ten minutes! And one last shot for the next time you’re sitting around reading your new comics.  Trying getting this little image out of your head.
