Yes, it’s that time of year again to unleash upon you quite possibly the worst television production ever, the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special.  Its awfulness can only be rivaled by  Jar Jar Binks and the first two prequels.  At least the sting of this unearthed footage is lessened by the pure unintended hilarity of this clusterf*%ck with nonsensical musical numbers (seriously, musical numbers) and bizarre guest appearances (Bea Arther, Jefferson Spaceship).  The Ninja staff howled through the intros of Chewbacca’s family in bad gorilla suits with names like, wife Malla, dad Itchy and son Lumpy.

Lumpy

In an all too serious intro of the video, the writer points out that Star Wars creator George Lucas’s involvement in the special’s production was limited, and he was unhappy with the final product.  As a result, it has never been re-aired in the US or been officially released on home video, but has been widely bootlegged by fans.  The intro tries to find some dignity and goes on to state that the Holiday Special is important for being the first film-length Star Wars story to appear following the release of the original Star Wars, featuring cameos by all of that film’s major cast, and for introducing the character Boba Fett in an animated short.  O.K., that part was cool.  Enjoy and merry Christmas or life day or whatever it is they are trying to promote in this video and frankly anytime we get to see the original characters from that time period anew it’s a bonus.  By the way, the sound will kick on about a minute into the video.
