Welcome back to part two of our feature on Claire Max, our June 2011 Cosplay Babe of the Month. We’re glad you enjoyed part one some much and thank you for the overwhelming response. Now let’s get back to the interview.
Comics Ninja: What do you think of all of the attention you have gotten from the fanboys (and girls) on the internet and at conventions?
Claire:It’s pretty crazy. I was the awkward, unattractive, nerdy kid all my life, and never got attention at all. But then I kind of “broke out” in the cosplay world, and suddenly I have thousands of friend requests on Facebook, and it’s insane! Haha. Most of the time it’s pretty flattering, but there are of course the occasional weirdos. I have met so many great people through this hobby though, many of which have become really good friends.
Comics Ninja:What are your best and worst fanboy experiences?
Claire:Best experience…I’d have to say that was when an artist (who I fangirl hugely over) said he wanted to paint me! He said he loved my costumes and that I was pretty, and I was super flattered. =) As for worst…that would have to be the drunk guy who followed me back to my room at a con. I finally managed to shake him at the door to my room, I was afraid he’d try to come in! Most of the time I’m at cons with my boyfriend, Clyde, and he’s kind of big and intimidating (and an Army Captain), so he frightens the fanboys off. XD
Comics Ninja: We notice your affinity for Green Lantern and to that we say bravo. Why the love for the Lantern?
Claire:I think the whole concept of the lanterns is one of the more unique and well-thought-out superhero concepts. The whole Idea of using light as weapon is really cool, as is the idea of their powers being governed by emotions. It’s fun, and the storylines are great.
Comics Ninja: What character would you be if you could be any character in real life?
Claire:That’s a tough one…probably Jean Grey, from the X-men. Telekinesis is pretty much the best power ever, it allows you to do anything, from lifting tanks to flight. And who hasn’t wanted to read minds every now and then? haha. Plus she’s a hot redhead. =)
Comics Ninja: We agree! Alright, next, what costumes are you planning in the near future?
Claire:I always have TONS of costumes on my “want-to-make” list, half of which I never get around to, haha. My current plans for SDCC are: Isis (with Clyde as Black Adam), Black Widow, Martian Maneater (with the Gender Bent Justice League), and Ultimate Jean Grey with Clyde as Cyclops. Then there are the costumes that I’ve always wanted to make, like Leeloo from The Fifth Element, which I keep telling myself I’ll get to eventually…
Comics Ninja: Any advice for fellow cosplayers planning in the future to go to the conventions dressed as their favorite characters?
Claire:Just have fun, and don’t take it too seriously! Sometimes people forget that we’re a bunch of geeks running around in spandex, and get caught up in silly drama. It’s supposed to be FUN, and that’s the most important thing! Also, remember to wear the proper undergarments…especially guys! haha. (From the Ninja, all male cosplayers please read that last sentence three times before moving on. Thank you).
Comics Ninja: What else should the Ninja Nation know about you? What else would you like to pass along?
Claire: I’m a fashion design major in college, and I do take the occasional costume commission! Claire can be found at: facebook.com/Claire.Max23.
Well crew, that’s the end of our feature on Ms. June. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Until next time, we’ll leave you with a couple more pictures. Enjoy!
