It’s March and Spring is just around the corner. Coming all the way from Florida to help us thaw the remaining winter snows is Cosplay Babe of the Month: Abby Dark Star. On top of providing us with her sizzling photos, she has been gracious enough to grant us an interview and spend some time with us here in the Ninja Lair.
Without further ado let’s jump right into our interview:
Comics Ninja: When did you first get into Cosplay and why?
Abby: I have always been into comic books, and having a theater background, they went hand in hand. I remember my first desire to create a costume was when I read Batman Year One: Shadow of the Bat Annual #3. It had the most fierce Poison Ivy on the cover. I wanted to recreate it immediately. I think I gave my mother a heart attack at that statement.
Comics Ninja: What was your first cosplay experience like?

Abby: It was 2007. I had been reading the Anita Blake series and wanted to do one of the covers from the comic. I made the shirt that said “Zombies are cool” and etc. No one knew who I was lol.
Comics Ninja: What was the reaction of your family, friends and/or boyfriends at the time?
Comics Ninja: We noticed in your costume choices that you cover a wide range from DC and Marvel comics to Star Wars and Gaming. What is your favorite genre?
Abby: I would have to say that my favorite genre is DC Comics. They were the comics I read growing up, and still continue to faithfully read today. Other than that, I try to connect to the characters I portray in some sort of way; that matters to me more than anything.
Comics Ninja: You have featured Poison Ivy, the Black Cat, Cat Woman and the Black Queen in your costumes choices. Do you have any characters that you prefer to follow in comics? Has that evolved or changed over the years?
Abby: I am an avid collector of Poison Ivy’s appearances in DC Comics. I love reading the Gotham City Siren’s series, it is one of my favorites. I used to read all the titles, but I was much younger and had a lot more free time! I used to be a big X-men reader, but have drifted away from reading a lot of Marvel titles. I try to keep up with current happenings as much as possible, but I have a very busy schedule so it makes it difficult.
