Please join us in welcoming the July 2011 Cosplay Babe of the Month, Lindze A’la Mode. She comes to us by way of Atlanta, Georgia and brings some serious heat just in time for Summer. She has shared some of her favorite cosplay photos and been gracious enough to grant us an interview, so lets get to it!
Comics Ninja: First, a little background. We understand that you currently live in the Atlanta area. What is the cosplay scene like there? We’ve been surprised at the big cosplay community with Ms. April, Riddle, and others residing in the area.
Lindze: I don’t really know how it ended up being a cosplay hub, but it’s pretty awesome that it is! Riddle and a few others are friends of mine, so it’s nice having local friends into the same hobby that you can do craft nights and costume groups with.
Comics Ninja: Do the cosplayers in the area ever get together outside of conventions, craft nights, etc?
Lindze: A few of us do, definitely. I wish we saw each other more, but Atlanta is such a spread out city, the distances sometimes make it hard except for special events or costume projects.
Comics Ninja: What regional or national conventions have you attended or do you plan to attend in the near future?
Lindze:I’ve gone to almost every major anime con in the country at one time or the other, and a lot of the smaller ones as well, and even some cons outside of the US. But, as of now, Dragoncon, AWA, and occasionally Animazement are the only conventions I attend anymore. I just don’t have as much time to travel to faraway conventions as I used to. But luckily the very best convention, Dragoncon, is local. I love that con, its so much fun.
Comics Ninja: How did you first get into cosplay and why?
Lindze: I first got into cosplay by discovering it on accident online, when doing an image search for a Halloween costume I was making, back in 1999. I was so excited to discover a scene where people loved to dress up as much as I did and could be big dorks together. I booked a ticket within a month to the next anime con I could get to, and I’ve been cosplaying ever since.
Comics Ninja: What was your first convention cosplay experience like?
Lindze:Very welcoming. I didn’t know anyone—I met a couple people online before I went, but that was it. Everyone was so nice and seemed as excited as I was that I was there. Cosplaying for the first time was a bit scary. I’d never been dressed up like that in public. But the people with me all made me feel at ease quickly and I had a blast. It pretty much hooked me in immediately.
Comics Ninja: What was the reaction of your family, friends and/or boyfriends at the time?
Lindze: Everyone was supportive. My mom has a great appreciation for costuming, and even helped me make my first costume. My husband thought it was cool as well, and has always been supportive of me dressing up, even when I’m half naked, amazingly. I’m really lucky to have the awesome support structure I have.

Silent Hill Nurses by Allison Rose
Lindze:Pixelette is a photography studio here in Atlanta, where we do all kinds of portraits, but specialize in pin-ups & boudoir photography and makeovers. I am a makeup artist & stylist who makes over the client, and Allison Rose, the owner, is the photographer/retoucher. It’s really fun. I basically get to dress other people up and do what I love for a living. We do all sorts of fun, creative stuff and I really enjoy giving women of all ages and sizes a confidence boost by dressing them up.
Comics Ninja:What do you think of all of the attention you have gotten from the fanboys (and girls) on the internet and at conventions?
Lindze:It’s always surprising and amazing. I don’t try very hard to promote my work anymore, so when people have heard of me, I’m always a bit taken off guard. But I’m happy that other people find enjoyment from my hobby. I love meeting other people into cosplay at cons. Most of my best friends I’ve met through conventions and cosplay overall.
