August 2012 Cosplay Babe of the Month, Mad Mel as Psylocke from X-Force.
Welcome back to part two of our feature on Cosplay Babe of the Month for August 2012, Mad Mel. She gave us some great answers in part one of her interview and we look forward to learning more about her in part two, so let’s get back to it.
Comics Ninja: What are your best and worst fanboy experiences at the conventions or events?
Mel: My best fan boy experience was when my now boyfriend came up to me at my first con. He was dressed as Spider-Man, STILL to this day the best Spidey I’ve ever seen, and asked to take a picture with me and continued to ask if I was working the con professionally. He was shocked it was my first con. I remember giggling a lot but he seemed to think I was bored.
I’ve had a couple of experiences that have ranked for the worst but nothing really scary. I’ve had guys grab my boobs “on accident” while taking pictures. I’ve had stalkers on face book send me extremely inappropriate messages. Lots of just…creepy things. No one has really threatened me or anything though.
Comics Ninja: What comic books are you personally reading right now? Favorite games or Anime?
Mel: I’m catching up on Spider-man a lot right now. Lots of Black Cat collections and I also picked up Spider-man noire. Hack/Slash is also on my reading list. I’m on the third collection right now. As for games, I was playing Diablo 3 for a bit but got bored. I’m waiting for guild wars to come out. I’m actually still attempting to beat Alice Madness Returns because I keep getting distracted with other things. Fairytail is the one and only anime I watch and it is magnificent.

Comics Ninja: And now for the tough part of the interview. Favorite zombie movie and why?
Mel: That is a tough question…I love all the classics. I’m partial to Romero’s movies because a couple of them were filmed in my hometown of Ft. Myers. But I really, really love Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland. I’m big into comedies. Laughter is definitely the way to my heart.
Comics Ninja: There actually were right answers to those questions and you nailed them. Good job. Next, if you could have any superpowers what would they be?
Mel: Telekinesis, pyrokinesis, invisibility, bad luck powers, flight.
Comics Ninja: What costumes are you planning in the near future?
Mel: I’ve got a couple of fairytale ladies I’ve been waiting to try out. Also Amaterasu. And I’ve been working on some new Ivy costumes and may decide to try out some of the other Gotham ladies as well. I would love to do. 2099 Black Cat also.
Comics Ninja: Any advice for fellow cosplayers planning to go to the conventions dressed as their favorite characters in the future?
Mel: Have fun! And get into it. Nothing annoys me more than seeing someone in a GREAT costume who doesn’t get into the role in pictures. You’re dressed like a superhero/villain! Act like it! Its rare you get to do this everyday so live it up every chance you get. Also make sure to carry superglue/spirit gum/double sided tape with you. You never know when cosplay disasters will arise.

Comics Ninja: Any last parting pearls of wisdom or otherwise to pass onto the readers? Any websites we should check out to see more of your wonderful costumes?
Mel: Cosplay is an art. It deserves respect. Also, just because a girl shows her boobs/skin doesn’t mean she doesn’t respect herself…its most likely what the costume is supposed to look like. Shower before going to conventions. Keep your hands to yourself. Come check me out of face book at http://www.facebook.com/madmel722 and make me laugh. And stay away from Bath salts. *hugs. Kisses. Fist bumps*
