Welcome to part two of our interview and feature on one of our favorite cosplayers, BelleChere.  We’ve enjoyed our time with her so far so let’s get back to the interview right away.

For all the fun I had wearing this costume, the character still sparks a nerve in me.  I want to be able to put a finger on what exactly I have against her, but I’m not sure what it is. Maybe it’s due to her powerful, near feminist ideals.  Maybe it’s cause I’d rather root for Rogue or Mystique whenever they’ve bested the Avenger.  Maybe it’s cause she took Tony Stark’s side in the Civil War.  Maybe it’s because she just doesn’t smile enough.  Every move she makes just seems opposed to what I would choose to do instead.

Despite my reservations about the character, I read and enjoyed the Ms. Marvel solo series.  Not to mention I’m an ardent supporter of Frank Cho and loved how he drew her.  That, on top of this being one of the most often requested costumes for me to make, drove me to create this costume.  The mask was made by the talented Mike Shiffbauer.

Comics Ninja: What are your best and worst fanboy experiences at the conventions or events?

BelleChere: Most of my experiences have been very positive.  A lot of people assume that I always have people bothering me when I’m in costume, but most people that interact with me are really polite.  I’ve really only had a couple lewd interactions, and the guys were pretty intoxicated.  The experience that sincerely bothered me was when this guy, total stranger, came up and proposed to me.  At first I thought he was joking, that it was a dare that his friends nudged him into doing…but then I saw he had the Crazy Eyes.  I told him no, explained I was married, but he wound up not taking the hint and approached me twice more during the day.  It was creepy.

February 2012, Cosplay Babe of the Month, BelleChere as Lady Death. 

Yes the weather outside is frightful but today we bring you our February 2012, Cosplay Babe of the Month to heat things up.  Please join us in welcoming Ms. February, BelleChere!  Now let’s get those icicles melting and get right to the interview after a couple of insights as to the first two pictures from BelleChere herself.

When I first saw ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’, even though I was just a little girl, I was in awe of Jessica Rabbit.  Beautiful, glamorous, sultry and classy – she is, to me, what every woman wants to be.  She’s certainly who I wanted to be, though it took me until now to feel like I could be that woman.  It takes a lot of confidence to walk in those stilettos, and it’s taken me a while to build up to it, but I finally felt like I could portray this icon.”

I did wear white contacts, though I did edit out the pupils in these pics. I’d rather do a little photo editing than be completely blind at the convention with white-out scleras!  My favourite part was being able to meet Brian Pulido (the creator) at his booth. He loved it!!”

Comics Ninja:  BelleChere, thank you for joining us today all the way from New Hampshire.  Briefly tell us a little bit about yourself.

BelleChere: Hey there!  Thanks for having me!  I’ll be honest, I’m always stumped on where to start when I’m supposed to talk about myself.  I’m an artist who works in the live entertainment industry – theatre, opera, arena shows, dance, musicals, that sort of thing – usually as stage manager or wardrobe/costume design/creation.  I love good cooking so much that I got a degree in how to give people food-orgasms.  I like staying indoors, doing geeky things, and I like being outdoors, doing non-geeky things, but I love when the two combine (like Quidditch).  There, brief and little – Bazinga!

Photo right: BelleChere as the Goblin Queen.  Comment from BelleChere: “This is what happens when a clone of Jean Grey has a husband, a child, and goes through a series of retcons and history rewrites – she turns evil.  Madelyne Pryor was a clone of Jean Grey created by Mister Sinister in a plot to gain a super-mutant child in order to beat Apocalypse.  Go read the Inferno saga!  I created this costume to go along with my husband’s Mister Sinister costume and to be in an X-Men villains group.  My husband had been asking me for years to make it – I finally broke down and did it.  To answer the question I was asked all day: toupee tape.

January 2012 Cosplay Babe of the Month, Heidi Cosplay Kitten, escapes from the asylum!

Welcome back to part two of our feature on January Cosplay Babe of the Month Heidi Cosplay Kitten.  As we found out in the first part of our interview Heidi has very diversified interests and is an all around sweetheart.  We assume that it’s the small town Illinois roots.  With that, let’s get right back into our wonderful interview with Heidi.

Comics Ninja: What are your best and worst fanboy experiences at the conventions or events?

Heidi: The best experience is definitely the friendships I’ve made.  Dressing up is only half the fun of cosplaying – the best part is meeting new people and making new friends who have the same hobby and interests as I do.  Conventions have brought a lot of wonderful people into my life and opened up a lot of opportunities for me, and I wouldn’t trade that for the world! I haven’t really had many bad experiences.  I guess the worst would be the “drive-by gropers” – guys who try to cop a feel while walking past you as fast as they can, or the macho jock-type football fans who somehow always seem to be in the area at Dragon Con every year and don’t like taking no for an answer.

Comics Ninja: What comic books are you personally reading right now?  Favorite games or Anime?

Heidi: Right now I’m reading the Walking Dead trade paperbacks.  I own all of them up to volume #14, and am eagerly awaiting my chance to pick up volume #15, which just came out.  I’m also reading the Vampire Hunter D novels – I’m almost finished with volume #13 – Twin-Shadowed Knight.  My favorite games are old school role playing games – Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire, the Final Fantasy Series, and so many more to list!  As for anime, one of my favorite series would probably be the Fate series. I’m dying a little inside knowing I can’t watch season 2 of Fate/Zero until April!
