Welcome back to part two of our feature with Ms. February, Ani Mia.  At the time of the interview it was cold in New York tonight so we tried to warm her up with some thought provoking questions in part two of her interview.

Comics Ninja: So we heard that you roll the 20 sided die.  Any favorite characters or classes you like to play?

cosplay, photos, comic, book, spider-man, batman

Ani: I’m always a Rogue when given the option. My D&D character is a Shadowdancer named Mistaya, named after a Terry Brooks character. There’s something about being little and stealthy.

Comics Ninja: What are your best and worst fanboy experiences at the conventions?

Ani: The best is just meeting all new people. I can’t really think of too many that I would consider the best because I enjoy them all. Though I do especially like meeting little fanboys and girls. I’m a sucker for a kid in a cosplay. They are so cute. And I think that I have been lucky that I really haven’t had a bad experience. I generally end up having my own fangirl moments when I meet some of the guests I really want to meet like George Takei, Wil Wheaton, Richard and Wendy Pini, Nicholas Brendon…

Comics Ninja:  What comic books are you personally reading right now? Favorite games?

Ani: I’m currently reading The Walking Dead, Buffy and the new 52 regularly. There are a couple I need to catch up on. Right now my favorite games are still standbys like Skyrim and Dishonored. I get a lot of play out of those games.

Comics Ninja:  And now for the tough part of the interview.  Which is better Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead and why?

cosplay, photos, comic, book, spider-man, batman

Ani: I can’t even compare the two. They are too different. I love Game of Thrones and am currently reading the third book on the series and the Walking Dead is my favorite piece of zombie literature, followed by World War Z. That question will make my head blow up.

Comics Ninja:  If there were to be an Elfquest movie (one is rumored to be on the way), which character would you play?

Ani:  YYeeeesssss, sorry, just the idea of that had me squealing. I would definitely want to play Leetah. She’s a strong female character and then…there’s Cutter, hehe. I’ve actually thought about cosplaying her for some time now.

Comics Ninja: What costumes are you planning in the near future?

Ani: I have so many because I am constantly working on new ones. I have Silk Spectre, Nel from Bleach, Rydia from Final Fantasy and a few secret ones.

Comics Ninja:  Any advice for fellow cosplayers planning to go to the conventions dressed as their favorite characters in the future?

Ani: Have fun, don’t be nervous if it’s your first time. I think the only rules of cosplaying should be to have fun and respect others.

Comics Ninja:  Any last parting pearls of wisdom or otherwise to pass onto the readers?

Ani:  If you see me at a convention come up and say hi. I love to meet new people!!!

Comics Ninja:  Finally, any websites we should check out to see more of your wonderful costumes and learn more about you?

Ani:  Thank you! I have all of my pictures and some funny stuff I find on the internet on my fan page at http://www.facebook.com/Ani.Mia.Cosplay. I also have a blog at: http://houndcomics.com/wp/cosplaysociety/ and you can follow me on my Twitter at: @animiaofficial.

Please join us in welcoming our February 2013, Cosplay Babe of the Month, Ani Mia.  She comes to us all the way from New York City to warm hearts during the cold winter doldrums.  Ani has been gracious enough to grant us a two part interview and feature so let’s get right to it!

cosplay, photos, comic, book, spider-man, batman

Comics Ninja:  Ani, thank you for joining us from New York City.   Briefly tell us a little bit about yourself.

cosplay, spider-man, batman

Photo left, the real Mr. Wampa.  We think we’ll stick with Ani’s version, thank you very much.

Ani:  Well, I’ve been cosplaying since 2008 but I’ve always loved anything generally considered ‘boy stuff’ or nerdy things.  I started playing video games when I was 5, playing TMNT on my dad’s Apple II GS.  I like sci-fi shows and movies, fantasy novels, D&D…I’m definitely not your conventional girl and never have been.  I’m me. J

Comics Ninja:  What first got you into cosplay and what was your first experience like?

Ani: I started going to conventions and saw all the cosplays and it looked like so much fun.  I am an art history major so I’ve always appreciated the artistic side of cosplaying and realized I really wanted to try it.  Especially after I bought my first cosplay and it was horrible and I knew that I wanted to make them myself.

Comics Ninja:  We love your “Wampa” photoset.  We understand the inspiration (greatest movie ever made) but how did you come up with idea and how did the photo-shoot come together?

cosplay, photos, comic, book, spider-man, batman

Photo Right, Ani as Castanic Warrior from Tera.

Ani: The idea came up because Star Wars is one of my favorite movie Trilogies (the new ones should be considered separately) and I really wanted to cosplay from it without being the millionth slave Leia at the convention.  I’m not too sure how the thought really came into my head but I figured there couldn’t have been that many people that made a female wampa so I just kind of ran with it and it was pretty fun.  The photoshoot was a ton of fun working with Lars Peterson in Seattle.  He’s amazingly talented and was able to completely create the background digitally.

Comics Ninja:  Staying with the theme of Star Wars, what are your thoughts and hopes for the new Star Wars movies?

Ani: I would really love to see them go with the ongoing storyline of Han and Leia’s children, Jaina, Jacen and Anakin.  I used to read the Young Jedi Knights series in high school and would love to see it in a movie.  Plus, I think it’s kind of the only logically progression from the original movies.  That and I think Disney wouldn’t hesitate to bring in the family aspect of the saga.  I just hope JJ Abrams doesn’t overdo it with the lens flare.  (I know that’s over said at this point)

Comics Ninja:  We note that you have a modeling career as well.  Has cosplay enhanced your modeling or the other way around?

cosplay, photos, comic, book, spider-man, batman

Ani:  It tends to be too completely different worlds but they do influence each other.  I bring a ton of my modeling experience into my cosplay photoshoots as far as location selection and posing.

Comics Ninja:  What do you think of all of the attention you have gotten from the fanboys (and girls) on the internet and at conventions?

Ani: I’m still pretty amazed by it. I was completely shocked a few months ago when someone recognized me as my cosplay name at my favorite gaming bar in Washington, AFK Tavern.  I do love the feeling I get when someone comes up and says that I inspire them to cosplay.  That is the greatest feeling to me.

Welcome to part two of our feature with December 2012 Cosplay Babe of the Month, Stacey Rebecca.  Let’s open part two of our Christmas gift to Ninja Nation by getting right back to the interview and more great photos.

cosplay stacey rebeccaStacey as Ms. Marvel.

Comics Ninja: What are your best and worst fanboy experiences at the conventions or events?

cosplay stacey rebecca

Stacey: None yet, everyone’s been alright in person! Call it British reserve, maybe… I’ll be interested to see the difference between fanboys in the UK and US, for sure!

Comics Ninja: What comic books are you personally reading right now? Favorite games?

Stacey: I have a massive stack of comics I haven’t had the chance to read yet, it’s disgusting!  Last things I read were new 52 Batman and the Assassin’s Creed graphic novels.  Favorite games are… Oh man. Assassin’s Creed and Batman ^_^ I’m pretty predictable.  I get obsessed with things and won’t leave them alone!

Comics Ninja: And now for the tough part of the interview. Best pub in south London and why?

Stacey: Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of pubs.  I’m an antisocial creature – love hanging out with my friends but all those other humans?  Shudder.  If I had to choose, I’d probably say any Wetherspoons. That Purple Rain cocktail tastes like sweets.  IT’S AMAZING.

Comics Ninja: Better movie Beetlejuice or Nightmare Before Christmas and why?  And yes, there is a right answer.

cosplay Stacey RebeccaDecember 2012 Cosplay Babe of the Month, Stacey Rebecca as Poison Ivy.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays, Ninja Nation.  Our gift to you is wrapped in Cosplay goodness and comes all the way from London.  Please join us in welcoming December 2012 Cosplay Babe of the Month, Stacey Rebecca.  Now let’s get right to her sizzling pictures and wonderful interview.

Comics Ninja:  Stacey, thank you for joining us today all the way from the U.K., and South London. Why don’t you take the opportunity to tell us little bit about yourself.

Stacey: My name’s Stacey Rebecca, I’m an alternative/cosplay model from the UK and my favorite things in the world are mathematics, Batman and my Xbox! :)

Comics Ninja: We note that you have a pretty extensive and impressive modeling background.  Why don’t you tell us a little bit about it.

Stacey: I started modeling a few years ago with some amazingly talented photographer friends, only very occasionally though.  I love cosplay modeling but my first love was alternative modeling, being the massive goth that I am.  Don’t let the blonde hair deceive you!  Most people expect me to be super confident and perfect in real life but I’m really not – modeling has given me a huge boost of self-esteem but in reality I’m just a shy nerd with hang ups just like everybody else.  I look like a total mess when I’m not modeling, too!

Comics Ninja: What came first modeling or cosplay and what first got you into cosplay?

Stacey: I’ve always been into cosplay in terms of fancy dress parties and what not, but it’s only really the last couple of years that I started making my own costumes.  I’m quite the perfectionist and would get frustrated when store bought costumes weren’t exactly true to the comic/game, so I’d make alterations and additions myself.  And it went from there really – I figured that I had loads of awesome costumes that might make some decent pictures, so I started bringing them along to photo shoots and that was it!

Comics Ninja: What was your first cosplay experience like?

Stacey: I’ve been attending conventions for a couple of years now but I only started cosplaying at them this year, and it was NUTS!  I wore my Assassin’s Creed 3 Connor Kenway costume to Eurogamer in the summer, and the attention was really overwhelming – I literally couldn’t get from A to B without being stopped for photos and surrounded by people.  I had no idea what was going on!  I only got to play two games that day… Next time, I’m having a day dressed normally so I can experience everything to the fullest!  I did get to cut the line for Assassin’s Creed 3 though, woooot!

cosplay, sexiest, photos, pictures, comic, bookNovember 2012 Cosplay Babe of the Month, Alexia Jean Grey as Batgirl.  Photo Superhero Photography.

Welcome to part two of our feature on November 2012, Cosplay Babe of the Month, Alexia Jean Grey.  We’ve loved her pictures and interview responses so far so let’s get right back to the questions and roll out some more smoking photos.

cosplay, sexiest, photos, pictures, comic, book

Comics Ninja:  Yeah we agree AvX ended up being a bit of a snoozer (see part one of the interview).  And now for the tough part of the interview.  Which is better Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead and why?

Alexia: Oh jeez… I could probably go one forever about this. I actually do not like the Walking Dead show.  I understand yeah the guy who wrote the comic is also doing the show and it’s supposed to be a different take on it and TV can’t do all the brutal things that the comic can and yatta yatta.  But I think the comic book is way better, I watched the first season of WD and a recent episode of it and I was just flat out confused.  To me I like the way the comic book flows better and I liked the characters/ the deaths/ the governor everything better in the comic.  Not to say the show is bad but I just prefer the book better.  So I have to give it to GOT I love both the book and the show equally.

Comics Ninja:  Good answer.  What character would you be if you could be any character in real life?

Alexia: That is also a tough question.  I would have to go with Natasha though, I do love superpowers and would be happy to have some, but I love the fact that BW has none but can defeat enemies that do. She is insanely intelligent and is a master in weaponry as well as martial arts, and to me that is just as badass as being able to fly or super strength.

Comics Ninja:  If you could have any superpowers what would they be?

Alexis: Any kind of telekinetic or magic powers.  Somewhere between Scarlett Witch and Jean Grey is cool with me.

Comics Ninja: You bring a sensual side to your cosplay.  Is that intentional or does that just come out naturally when bringing the characters to life?

Alexia: Yes and no, to me 99.9% of female characters are drawn sexy, so sometimes it does just come out (I would like to believe sexuality is a great superpower ha!) However there are certain characters that have that as part of their personality such as Poison Ivy.  Her kisses are deadly and just covered in leaves so of course you have to bring a little sex appeal when wearing that costume.

Comics Ninja: What costumes are you planning in the near future?

Alexia: Currently I am making Felicia from Darkstalkers and Rei from High School of the Dead.  As much as I love comics I have not done an anime or video costume in a long time.  I am also planning on a really big piece for Megacon next year but I am keeping that one as a surprise!
